Belleville in the First World War

Follow the citizens of Belleville and Hastings County as they face the challenges of the home front during the First World War through excerpts from The Daily Intelligencer, August 1914 to December 1918, in a series of blog posts compiled and edited by Laurel Bishop.

The Hastings County Historical Society has published the story of how people in Belleville and Hastings County met those challenges in a new book compiled and edited by Laurel Bishop. This book is available for sale at the Community Archives of Belleville and Hastings County.

You can also read about First World War Nursing Sisters with a Belleville or Hastings County connection in Don Brearley’s posts on the topic. Dr. Brearley has also created a list of men who served and died in the war but who are not commemorated on the Belleville Cenotaph. Posts about Deseronto in the First World War can be found on the Deseronto Archives blog.
