“War Anniversary Commemorative Service. A service was held in Emmanuel Reformed Episcopal Church last evening, which was fairly well attended considering the inclement weather. The object of the meeting was to commemorate the anniversary of the proclamation of war by Great Britain against Germany. The presence of His Lordship Rev. Bishop Willard Brewing of Toronto in the city was an incentive to have him give an address which he did.
The Rector of the Church, Rev. A.M. Hubly presided over the meeting and took part in the services, which were in every respect commemorative of the occasion. Special prayers were said and appropriate hymns were sung. …
The Bishop referred especially to the part Canadians had and were taking in the gigantic struggle and eulogized them for the services they had rendered. Whilst he did not make an appeal for enlistment he referred to those who had enlisted, referring to them as not only patriots, but heroes, who would be recognized as such by the citizens of Canada. …
The address was in every respect most patriotic in sentiment and one which tended to be of infinite good to those who listened to it.”
